Entry Requirements

  • Significant experience of working with children in an early years setting as a volunteer or through paid employment.
  • You will need to undertake 18 hours per week in a relevant placement if not currently employed in an early years setting.
  • You must have the equivalent of a level 3 CACHE, BTEC or NVQ in a related subject and at least two GCSEs, including grade C in English language and maths or equivalent level 2 qualification.
  • You will complete English and maths assessments as part of the interview process.

Curriculum

At level 4, topics students will study relate to children’s development and learning, principles of play and learning, safeguarding, the rights of the child, multi-agency working and developing parent partnerships.

At level 5,stdents will explore issues relating to current educational and legislative practice and be involved in independent research. They will consider international perspectives of learning and historical theories of childhood. There will also be a focus on supporting children with special educational needs.
