Entry Requirements

Preliminary year (year one of four) entry

  • Applicants must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the course.
  • Students from 12-year education systems are normally required to have graduated from High School. Applicants for all degree programmes should have achieved at least four grades B's at GCSE, or an equivalent level qualification.
  • Minimum English language requirement
    • IELTS 5.5 with the writing band no less than 5.0
    • TOEFL (IBT) 71 (minimum 17 in any element)
    • PTE Academic 55 (minimum 51)

Qualifying year (year two of four) entry

  • Students from twelve or thirteen year education systems, or who have studied a recognised foundation course, are not usually required to complete a preliminary year. Instead they may study a three year degree. Year two entry applicants should have achieved a minimum of:
    • GCE A Level: BBB-AAB
    • IB Diploma: 30-34 points
    • HKDSE 544
    • Indian Standard XII 75-85%
    • A recognised foundation programme
    • 1-2 years of study at a recognised institution
    • An international equivalent
  • Minimum English language requirement
    • IELTS 6.5 with the writing band no less than 6.0
    • TOEFL (IBT) 87 (minimum 20 in Speaking and 19 in all other elements)
    • PTE Academic 62 (minimum 55)

Curriculum

Year One

  • The first year consists in a specially designed intensive Academic English Programme designed, written and staffed by the highly experienced Centre of English Language Education (CELE) at the University of Nottingham. This programme is carefully integrated with an academic programme designed to prepare students fully for years 1-3 of the degree programme.

Year Two

  • Students will learn a core mathematical topics, such as sequences and series, calculus and matrices, that are fundamental to your later mathematical studies. In addition, students will study a variety of engineering topics, some with an emphasis on management and business and some emphasising physical aspects.

Year Three

  • The mathematical tools students will need are developed to a more advanced level, enabling students to model physical problems such as fluid motion. Engineering subjects are studied from a variety of disciplines, chosen according to your interests and background.

Year Four

  • In this year, students will have the chance to study a range of advanced topics in mathematics and its applications, as well as engineering subjects. Studies will include project work in which students will apply mathematics to practical problems.
