Entry Requirements
Preliminary year (year one of four) entry
- Applicants must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the course.
- Students from 12-year education systems are normally required to have graduated from High School. Applicants for all degree programmes should have achieved at least four grades B's at GCSE, or an equivalent level qualification.
- Minimum English language requirement
- IELTS 5.5 with the writing band no less than 5.0
- TOEFL (IBT) 71 (minimum 17 in any element)
- PTE Academic 55 (minimum 51)
Qualifying year (year two of four) entry
- Students from twelve or thirteen year education systems, or who have studied a recognised foundation course, are not usually required to complete a preliminary year. Instead they may study a three year degree. Year two entry applicants should have achieved a minimum of:
- GCE A Level: BBB-AAB
- IB Diploma: 30-34 points
- HKDSE 544
- Indian Standard XII 75-85%
- A recognised foundation programme
- 1-2 years of study at a recognised institution
- An international equivalent
- Minimum English language requirement
- IELTS 6.5 with the writing band no less than 6.0
- TOEFL (IBT) 87 (minimum 20 in Speaking and 19 in all other elements)
- PTE Academic 62 (minimum 55)
Curriculum
Year One
- written and oral communication and study skills
- sciences such as physics and chemistry maths for engineering and computer science
- engineering communication and IT skills
Year Two
- Professional engineering skills
- Engineering mathematics
- Engineering solid mechanics
- Fluid mechanics & hydraulics
- Introduction to electrical & electronic engineering
Year Three
- Students will build on the core modules studied in the previous year, and there is an opportunity to apply these fundamentals in structures and geotechnic project work.
Year Four
- Core modules continue in structures, materials, geotechnics and fluids, and students have the option to broaden their studies by choosing from a range of specialist elective modules. Students will also undertake an individual investigative project in an area of their own choice.
