About this course

Cambrian College's Computer Systems Technology program prepares students to work in the field of computer networking. The three-year program provides graduates with in-depth networking skills to manage and solve the networking, security, wireless access, and Voice over IP (VoIP) needs of small to large enterprises. Students develop the skills to design, install, manage, secure, and troubleshoot networks and internetworks.

In this six-semester program, students study desktop multi-user operating systems (Windows, UNIX, and Macintosh), local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs), network security, network management, unified wireless, and Voice over IP (VoIP). Students also learn programming languages and web and database technologies. As well, students will acquire skills in communication, customer service, entrepreneurship, and project management, because in today's team environments, employees must have both technical and people skills. Students learn how to configure routers, switches, wireless access points, bridges, wireless controllers, PIX/ASA firewall appliances, and VoIP telephones. Students also configure various Windows network operating systems and learn how to configure them using VMware virtualization to improve efficiency, availability, flexibility, and manageability of the infrastructure.
