Accommodation
UTAS offers a wide range of affordable accommodation for students. On-campus apartments and dormitories offer single bedrooms and the option of cooking for yourself, or eating in the UTAS restaurant. More than 80% of international students either live on campus, or within walking distance.
The cost of living in both Hobart and Launceston is dependent on a student's lifestyle and budgeting skills. Many of our students advise that their cost of living ranges between A$12,000 and A$14,500 annually (covering accommodation, transport, food, electricity etc.).
Campus
The University of Tasmania (UTAS) was established in 1890. UTAS is a medium sized university offering the benefits of smaller classes, personalised attention, and good access to supervisors and administrative staff. UTAS has over 26,000 students, including 3,000 international students from more than 100 countries.
As well as providing many sought-after programs such as computing, engineering, architecture, health sciences and law, UTAS is Australia’s national centre for maritime-related education, training and research through the Australian Maritime College (AMC). AMC is one of the seven founding members of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU). State of the art facilities, a strong relationship with industry and hands-on training by professionals keep AMC graduates in demand around the world.
For students needing to develop their English or academic skills, UTAS also has dedicated English Language Centres offering university pathway and preparation courses.
UTAS is located in Tasmania, Australia’s island state. Tasmania is just one hour from Melbourne by air and one and a half from Sydney. UTAS has a campus in Hobart, the capital and Launceston. Both campuses are located just ten minutes from the city centre by bus and within walking distance of a shopping centre.
