As courses in Shanghai and Paris are taught in English, it is preferable to have the requisite language skills before commencing the program.
Non-EU students and those from non-Native English-speaking countries are required to provide an IELTS or TOEFL score when applying to IFA Paris.
In Shanghai, students whose English proficiency is below par are required to attend additional language classes.
Students who have already attended a fashion school and wish to transfer to IFA Paris are also welcome but they must submit their portfolio to evaluate their skills in design, pattern making and draping to determine if they can be admitted directly to the second or third year.
Intake: In Paris we have one intake a year in September, while in Shanghai we have two, one in September and another in March.
Subjects
First Year
In the first year, IFA students build the foundation that will support their future success. Students learn the fundamentals of design and computer-aided design, and pattern-making and draping, while delving into fashion's history and culture.
Second Year
Second year students apply the skills they gained during the first year, by practical learning of design, creating a variety of garments, and focusing on fabrics and trends. They explore in greater depth essential design concepts and begin to learn fashion marketing that helps them acquire a 360° understanding of the forces at play in garment creation.
Third Year
In the final year of the IFA Bachelor's Program, all classes are focused on the same goal: to help students create their own personal collections. Additionally to pursuit of increased skills in design, pattern-making and draping, computer-assisted design and marketing, students take specialized classes in creative draping, sportswear collections, knitwear, creative printing and a host of other subjects. The content of each specialized class is determined by the instructors assigned, based on their specialties and the goals of studentsÂ’ who wish to enroll These classes also help students to prepare and execute design of their personal collections to be shown at the year-end graduation fashion show, at which fashion media representatives and fashion companies view the best work of IFA's graduates.
