The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) is responsible for monitoring and overseeing the quality assurance practices and accreditation of national higher education. MQA recently published the result of the Discipline-Based Rating System (D-SETARA) - a rating system used to assess the quality of teaching and learning in Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) in Malaysia in four disciplines: Engineering; Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy; Health Sciences; and Hospitality and Tourism. Which are the best Engineering Universities in Malaysia? The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) recently announced the results of the Discipline-Based Rating System (D-SETARA).

The leading nations are USA and UK with US featuring 22 institutions, and UK featuring 10. Interestingly, Asia makes its strongest showing this field compared to any other discipline. It has 10 institutions in the top 50 (compared with only six from mainland Europe), headed by the National University of Singapore (19th).

While the arts and humanities ranking, like all the others, is predominantly US and UK universities, it is the only subject area where an institution outside the US and the UK makes the top five.

The Australian National University, based in Canberra and alma mater of Kevin Rudd, the former prime minister, is ranked equal fourth alongside Princeton University.

It leads a list of three Australian institutions in the top 20, with the universities of Sydney and Melbourne taking 18th and 19th place respectively.

The 2009 MQA Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA ’09) measures quality of teaching and learning at the undergraduate level in universities and university colleges (U & UC) in Malaysia. The SETARA ’09 rating instrument covers three generic dimensions of input, process and output to assess the quality of teaching and learning.The input dimension addresses talent, resources and governance. The process dimension focuses on curriculum matters and the output dimension is on the quality of graduates.

It is also a direct contribution to achieve the Key Results Area (KRA) that could drive the quality of education industry in Malaysia.
